A day of generosity in the heart of Le Perreux-sur-Marne
On Saturday, September 5, 2026, our association set up outside the Monoprix in Le Perreux-sur-Marne for a school supplies charity drive. The goal: to give schoolchildren in Rosso, Mauritania, the materials they need to start the school year on the right foot. The “A Backpack for Back to School” initiative brought together our entire team of volunteers and members, proud to carry out this action in the service of education.
Throughout the day, the commitment never wavered. Customers, first curious and then enthusiastic, added notebooks, pens, pencils, pencil cases and other essential supplies to their shopping. Some even came back especially to drop off a complete backpack. This spontaneous generosity turned an ordinary Saturday into a true wave of solidarity.
As we have often seen during our previous distributions, such as the one carried out in Rosso in 2022 (School Supplies Distribution in Rosso in 2022), education is at the heart of our commitment to the families of the Senegal river valley.
From France to Rosso, solidarity in action
Beyond the donations collected, what stands out most are the warm exchanges with the donors. Many encouraged us, asked about our projects in Rosso, and learned about the schooling conditions of Mauritanian children. One donor summed up the spirit of the day with simple words: “Every gesture counts, plain and simple.“
Why give school supplies to the children of Rosso?
In the Senegal river valley, many families struggle to equip their children for the new school year. Without notebooks or pens, schooling becomes an obstacle course. By collecting here, in France, we take action there, in Rosso: every filled pencil case, every backpack given, means a pupil who enters the classroom with dignity and confidence. This direct link between the Rosso diaspora and Mauritanian schoolchildren underpins all of our educational initiatives, such as the education support at Rosso we have been providing for several years.
A collective effort worth saluting
We owe this success first to the management and teams of the Le Perreux-sur-Marne store, who welcomed us with remarkable availability. We also salute our volunteers and members who staffed the stand with smiles on their faces for long hours. And we warmly thank all the customers and donors: your generosity will travel thousands of kilometers to become notebooks, pencils, and children’s smiles.
