A Project Serving the Autonomy of Women in Rosso
As part of our ongoing actions for the development of the city of Rosso, we carried out a capacity-building project dedicated to women in 2023. This module, focused on jam production and food preservation, is part of ARD Rosso‘s overall approach to promoting the economic empowerment of the women of Rosso. Women play a fundamental role in the local economy and household food security. By providing them with concrete tools, we help create a lasting impact within the community.
Transforming local fruits into artisanal jams not only helps valorize the region’s agricultural resources but also creates income opportunities. This initiative aligns with our values of solidarity and proximity, and complements our previous field actions, such as the distribution of school supplies in Rosso, which marked our commitment to youth education.
Jam Production and Food Preservation, a Know-How Passed On
The core of this project revolved around hands-on workshops where participants could learn through practice. Our trainers guided the women of Rosso in mastering jam production techniques, from fruit selection to jar filling and labeling. Each step was detailed to ensure a quality product suitable for sale in local markets.
What Preservation Techniques Were Taught to the Participants?
Alongside jam production, the food preservation component was an essential part of the training. The women discovered preservation methods adapted to the climate and available resources: drying, pasteurization, and optimal storage.
